Algarve: Top Tips for Holiday

Whether its cobbled streets and traditional fishing villages you want or glitzy marinas and and the chance to get your glad rags on for a special night out. If you want to sample the local cuisine or if you’re travelling in a group and want fun activities , the Algarve has got something to offer all tastes .

We’ve put together our top tips to make the most of your Algarve holiday.

Vilamoura Marina/Casino

Vilamoura marina is a great place to have a leisurely stroll , stop of in the elegant shops and bars which line the marina and catch a glimpse at the luxurious yachts which dock here.

A trip to Vilamoura Casino is a chance to get your glad rags on. With international shows and games rooms , the Casino is a great location for an adult night out . You can dine in style in the elegant restaurant and then try your luck at games including BlackJack and Roulette.

Alte

Alte provides a snapshot of the Algarve in years gone by. The towns church and water-mill date back to the 13th century and the two natural springs fill the baths and provide a great place to bathe and relax.

Local ingredients, carob, oranges, figs and honey are used to make two very different products , mouthwatering cakes and soap!!! Both you will find on sale in the town.

Chicken Piri-Piri in Guia.

Chicken marinaded in a special oil, made with olive oil and spices and then barbecued over a charcoal grill. Fantastic washed down with the local green wine (vinho verde)

Chicken Piri-piri is probably the regions most famous dish and you will see it in on all the menu’s locally. However, even the locals will agree that the town of Guia is the only place to try the real Chicken Piri-piri.  You won’t be offered a menu, simply tell the waiter how many people you would like to be served chicken for , and it comes served on platters with salad and chips. Mouthwatering and fantastic value for money.

Almancil Karting

A perfect place to spend a fun , action packed day out with something on offer for young and old .

Ideal for families , groups of friends , hen and stag parties or anyone who wants to test their skills with a bit of friendly competition . The main race track is a replica of the Brazilian formula one race track Jacaregua. There is also a mini-track, babies track , trampolines, mini boats and lots more.

Open everyday until midnight, perfect for a day or night out!!!!!

Lagos

Its no coincidence that everyone who goes on a planned excursion to Lagos makes the same comments. Firstly that it was one of the most beautiful places they visited while they were in the Algarve and secondly that  simply did not get to spend as much time as they would have liked to explore this historical town .

Steeped in history going back to the 15th century , the age of the great Portuguese discoveries . The town was the home to the first slave market in Europe. Lagos has Roman and Moorish influences giving it a fantastic cultural mix. Not only that, Lagos also hosts a stylish marina , resulting in the town combining fantastically the old and the new.

Theme Parks.

The Algarve boasts three water-parks and Zoomarine , the regions ocean-life theme park. For fun days out which will keep everybody entertained .

Aquashow boasts the largest water rollercoaster in Europe, while Slide and Splash will have you screaming as you encounter the Black-hole.

Zooomarine has it all, dolphin, seal and bird shows, fairground rides , swimming pools and the chance to interact with the Dolphins.

Seville

Arguably one of Europe’s most beautiful cities , the capital of the beautiful Andalucia region, home to the tomb of Christopher Columbus and the gothic cathedral, the 2nd largest in Europe. Seville is a magical city , the home to flamenco dancing and the only city in the world where you amble through the streets with the smell of oranges in the background. Excursions to Seville from the Algarve often involve a long , tiresome day. Speak to us and we can recommend the best way to see the city  on a minibus excursion. Its 20% cheaper than the tour-operators, there is no multiple pick-ups , you will have 6hrs free time to really appreciate the city which has been voted the 5th most beautiful in the world . Start times are also much later than tour-operators which means you will still have time for breakfast.
